Why do so many people sign up for a multi-level marketing company but then do nothing? How is it possible for someone to launch a business, and then just let it sit there doing nothing to move it forward?

It’s hard to image a restaurant owner signing a check for $300,000 to start a business and then not spending any of that money on buying food, hiring staff, or adorning their establishment, but it might happen. I am the same way.

People in our field “start” a firm, but they don’t actually do anything to build it, making ours the ONLY sector in which I’ve observed this phenomenon. It’s just so strange.

The following are some examples:

# 1) You sponsor Joe. He’s ecstatic about it. He says you he’s going to be the most serious person in your life, then goes out and spends $200 on a kit. You spend a few days assisting Joe in his work in order to show him the ropes. He seems interested, but there is a trace of hesitation in his expression. After ten days, Joe stops picking up the phone when you call. He removes you as a friend on Facebook and then disables your phone number. You are left wondering what took place.

2) Mary brings her spouse to the opportunity meeting that you have scheduled. Her level of energy is very impressive. There are a few questions that she has. You respond to her questions, and then she registers. She goes ahead and buys a kit and schedules her first appointment with you. The next day, she gives you a call to let you know that she has reconsidered her position towards the company.

# 3: Mike joins in January. He participates in each webinar. He places an order each month. He tells you that he wants to establish a big business, but you never see him sponsor anyone or sell anything that he sells.

These scenarios are pretty usual. In the event that you have not encountered them up until this point, you will. Just be patient and wait for it.

Why Do People Join Multi-Level Marketing Companies but Do Nothing Else?

After developing teams consisting of more than 100,000 individuals and personally supporting thousands of others, I believe that I now have it figured out. My thoughts are as follows:

#1: You Have No Financial Interest in the Outcome

Let’s be honest with one another for a second. If you spent $500,000 to start your business, like many other entrepreneurs do, you would be extremely motivated to be successful because of the amount of money you invested.

You would need to be coachable, read the training manual, follow the instructions, create a business strategy, establish a work schedule, locate a mentor, sell things, and put in the necessary amount of labor. You were the type of person who would arrive early and remain late. You would be expected to put in work 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Most people who operate in network marketing do not have this mentality with regard to their firm, and the primary reason for this is the relatively little financial commitment required in our profession.

Consider the following as advice: Pretend that you have invested one million dollars in your network marketing business and that you have only one year to make it back. You should not consider running your company a “side hustle” or something you do “part-time.” Imagine that it’s a legitimate enterprise. Maintain a full-time mentality while working a part-time schedule.

# 2: Fear

The majority of new distributors are afraid of being turned down. They are afraid of failing. Even when their friends and family don’t pay their expenses, they don’t want to appear foolish in front of those people because they don’t want to look foolish! They worry about what other people will say, think, or do.

Warning: Feeling afraid is normal. It is acceptable to feel fear. Being terrified but carrying out difficult tasks regardless is an example of having courage. In addition, I’ve discovered that taking action can alleviate worry. The more you confront your fears by facing them head on, the less power they have over you.

#3: You Are Confused and Don’t Know What to Do

This is a common justification given by many new representatives for their lack of effort. They argue that they do not understand what they should say or do in order to advance their company. This is not an acceptable justification in my book because anyone can go to YouTube, watch a couple of videos, and then know exactly what to say and how to act. If you really want something, there is always a way to get it.

You should provide your new representative with detailed step-by-step guidance on what to do next if they are coachable. The majority of people who enter our field do so with the mindset of an employee. That indicates that they are accustomed to having their actions directed towards them. Just make sure to phrase it in a manner that is polite and not authoritative.

#4: Absence of Interest in Conducting the Business

The majority of individuals who sign up with a network marketing organization do so in order to qualify for a price reduction on the products they intend to buy. As a direct consequence of this, they have zero interest in expanding their team, whether through retail or recruitment.

A helpful hint is to inquire about the objectives of each person you sponsor. Find out if they are interested in becoming a wholesale customer, making a few hundred dollars each month, or making this their career choice. Never anticipate that another person would be as dedicated to their enterprise as you are to yours. Help people achieve their objectives in whatever form those objectives may take by meeting them where they are.

#5. They Are Unaware of Their Own Reasons

This is the second most prevalent reason why most reps do not take any action to build their businesses, after the fact that they do not have any money invested in their companies. The truth is as follows. You won’t have a hard time picking up the knowledge and abilities essential to your success in this field. You can pick them up in a matter of days and become an expert on them in less than a year. However, if you don’t know WHY you are doing the business, you will never go out and do the work, and you will never face your anxieties and the rejection that you will encounter.

A helpful hint is to spend some time with each new representative and assist them in determining their “why.” They will not STAY in the business when things become rough if they do not have a “why” that moves them to tears.

#6: You Don’t Have What It Takes to Be an Entrepreneur

Although it may sound challenging, not everyone has what it takes to be successful in sales or in business for themselves. The concept of working for oneself may be appealing, but in practice, it requires a great degree of self-motivation and self-discipline to be successful. The vast majority of people do not possess either of these two things, which is why they must work for someone else.

Tip: Before you get involved in network marketing or establish any kind of business, you should seriously consider whether or not you truly want to run your own company. Create a list of your best qualities, including your skills, talents, and strengths. It’s possible that you’ll discover that stability in both your living situation and your income is more important to you than new experiences.

Your Expectations

If you want to make it in this business, you absolutely need to have reasonable expectations for the individuals you sponsor. There won’t be participation from everyone. There is no guarantee that anyone who joins will go on to create a successful company.

The majority of the people you sponsor will NOT DO ANY ACTION to advance their business. Your squad will lose the majority of its members within the first three months. These are the actualities.

If you sponsor one hundred people, eighty of them won’t do anything, nineteen of them will do something, and one of them will do a lot.

It will save you a lot of frustration if you learn these things before you need them, so study them now.
